Zanzibaris In Canada Form A Diaspora Association

With the recent creation of a new Department of International Cooperation and Zanzibar Diaspora (DICZD) in Zanzibar, under the Ministry of State in the President's and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council's Office, Zanzibaris living in Canada have just formed an association of their Diaspora called Zanzibar-Canadian Diaspora Association (ZACADIA).

This is a result of the political reconciliation which recently took place in the country and indeed is a clear manifestation that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has realized that Zanzibaris living abroad can contribute immensely towards the progress of their country as have other people of other countries.

This realization will be meaningful only if it is accompanied by a desire and a willingness of all Zanzibaris living abroad to come together in unison with their meager resources and form a formidable task force that would gear ahead and fast-track the socio-economic changes that for decades we Zanzibaris have been cherishing and longing for our motherland.

ZACADIA’s main objective is to foster, promote, encourage, facilitate and coordinate help for Zanzibar and act as a bridge between Zanzibaris living in Canada and our homeland.

Little is known today in Canada about Zanzibar and therefore the aim of ZACADIA is to provide latest information about Zanzibar to prospective investors, traders, business people, tourist and to all Canadians who originate from Zanzibar. In addition, Zacadia seeks to bring together Zanzibaris scattered over the vast land of Canada and then un-cover their concealed and un-tapped potentialities for the betterment of our country.

We have direct links to some important institutions in Zanzibar. We help Zanzibaris in the Diaspora to open foreign currency accounts in the People’s Bank of Zanzibar – the bank that is the first choice of all Zanzibaris. As they say,….People’s Bank…..People’s Choice!

Most importantly, we have our representatives back home who assess Community needs in Zanzibar and Pemba and then here in Canada we identify ways to meet those needs through our Department of Non-Profit Organization.

However, the task of pushing Zanzibar ahead cannot be accomplished by one person or by a small group alone. Thus, if you are a Zanzibari living in Canada, please, join hands with ZACADIA in our efforts to extricate and rescue our country from a socio-economic quagmire in which it is now wallowing.

ZACADIA craves to work hand in gloves with all Zanzibaris wherever they are towards the removal of the crippling power cuts in Zanzibar, strengthening of the fragile economy and eradication of abject poverty throughout the Isles.

We know that it can be done. Let us all play our parts.
